You are invited to take a tour into the creative thinking of these current graduate students whose contributions are the highlight of this year’s WLC journal publication, Vernacular (10th issue). The published works in this issue share a common thread, the use of a vernacular to relay meaning. My hope is that the meaning in and meaning of the works reach a larger audience.
Dr. Rudyard Alcocer introduced this opportunity to our department in 2015. 10 years ago, he made sure that the graduate students had the right tools to begin building the Vernacular. It is a unique journal publication opportunity that we still have today.
Thank you, Dr. Alcocer, for your guidance.
Thank you to the professors on the editorial board for their continued support of the journal.
All who are familiar with the inner workings of academic journals know that evaluating and editing submissions, when performed with care as our reviewers have done, can be exacting and highly focused tasks. As such, many thanks to the reviewers who graciously offered time away from their graduate student duties to help edit some of the many submissions.
Special thanks to Gbenga Akeju, Associate Editor, and to Konrad Szymanowski, Assistant Editor, for the time and effort they put into making the journal.
Finally, thank you to all our contributors for sharing with us!
Be advised that reading this journal issue may cause certain side effects such as: increased interest, thoughtful conversation, and fresh perspectives. Readers may also experience symptoms of sympathy and understanding. If any of these side effects occur, please notify everyone you know.
Sincerely yours,
Karen Buntin
