Abstract

One situation that every instructor faces is how to establish an optimal environment in which adult learners can thrive and the instructional process can be made most successful. Because adults entering a training setting, formal classroom, or self-directed learning activity come with a variety of needs, differences, and expectations, the learning environment must be able to accommodate such variety. This material describes some of what is known about the physical environment and suggests how an instructor can create an optimal setting for adult learning.
