General Submission Rules

The Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction is the official journal of ATMI. JATMI primarily publishes full-length and brief reports of original research but also publishes methodological, review, and theoretical articles at all levels and across genres such as education, theory/composition, musicology, performance and music production, and music technology and music industry. Peer-reviewed, JATMI welcomes contributions from educators, researchers and practitioners who are working with technologies in primary, secondary, and tertiary music education settings as well as unique learning populations. Research should follow academically sanctioned methodology: experimental, case study, ethnographic, or historical.

Blind Review

All manuscripts are submitted to a blind peer-review process.

All submissions are blind peer reviewed by at least two editorial board members, and typically undergo revision until the final decision is made. Receiving a revise and resubmit decision does not mean that the manuscript will be published. Therefore, authors must ensure they are submitting a manuscript that contains no clues to author(s) identity. This includes, but is not limited to, information on the title page, text within the body of the manuscript, as well as citations that may reveal author identity.

Information about the authors will be listed on the Cover sheet which is to be submitted with the article, but as a separate document.

Ethical Guidelines

Authors are expected to follow ethical guidelines and are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Submitted manuscripts must be original work.
  • The manuscript should not be simultaneously submitted to any other publication.
  • The manuscript should not have been published previously in any other publication either in substantially similar forms or with similar content.
  • If human subjects were used, the research should adhere to Institutional Review Board requirements (IRB).
  • All references to authors and institutions must be removed from the manuscript to ensure a blind review.

If you have concerns about the submission terms, please contact the editor.
