Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the feasibility of building a battery powered switching regulator to be used in the 230 to 300 degree Celsius temperature range, A variable duty cycle master clock driven type has been operated for 200 hours cumulatively at 225 to 300 degrees Celsius. The converter functioned at temperatures from 225-300 degrees Celsius showing no problems for 200 hours with semiconductor components, resistors, or inductors. However, ceramic capacitors of value greater than 0.1 µF have poor lifetime at the higher temperatures, but larger expensive teflon dielectric capacitors work well. The operation of a switching regulator at these temperatures with good reliability is possible.
