Abstract

The purpose in undertaking the fabrication of these coils was to make a reactor which could be used in the laboratory for loading purposes. More specifically, the coils were made for use with a 5 Kv-a – 110 volt - 26 ampere, 3 phase - 60 cycle alternator.

However, the coils are of such a construction that they may be used for obtaining a fairly wide range of currents, by connecting as many of the coils as are needed in series, or in parallel. A variation in current may be obtained also by changing the position of the coils with respect to each other.

The nature of this thesis is in the main, manual and observational. Practically the entire time devoted to the thesis was spent in the fabrication of the reactor, or in the observation of its characteristics.
