Abstract
The present distribution system of the University of Tennessee having proved inadequate due to the increased demands for power, a need has been felt for a system that will supply the present demands and also provide for supplying an increased demand in the future.
It is also inefficient, and although it was considered good design at the time it was installed (and the system is still used to a considerable extent), the present tendency is toward high voltage distribution even for short distances.
Aside from being inadequate and inefficient, the present distribution system is unsightly. The poles and the masses of wire mar the beauty of the campus,.
The object, then, of the present work is to design a system that will meet the demands for power, that will decrease the costs of distribution, end, 1f it does not increase the beauty of the campus, will at least be inconspicuous.
The intention of this study is not to discover new principles of design, but to apply will known principles of design to a particular installation.
