Abstract
Asynchronous file transfers between microcomputers and mainframes are gaining popularity at most institutions in the United States. The interprocessor communication is done through a serial telecommunication line using an asynchronous protocol. This thesis presents software and hardware considerations for the development of such a protocol between the TI-990/12 minicomputer and other computers. Programs are written for the implementation of a file transfer mechanism between the TI-990 minicomputer and the DEC-10 mainframe. All operator instructions for receiving a file from, and transmitting a file to, the DEC-10 are presented. A receiving Kermit program for the TI-990 minicomputer is also included as an alternative approach for file transfer between the TI machine and the DEC-10 mainframe. A well documented software presentation is included for future work on this project. Certain program limitations are presented along with suggestions for future modifications and enhancements to software.
