Abstract

This study is an investigation of ethical issues faced by professional urban and regional planners in Tennessee and of these planners use of the American Institute of Certified Plannners Code of Ethics. A questionaire was administered to a sample of eighty members of AICP in Tennessee, randomly selected from a list of AICP members in the state. Thirty-eight responsed, a response rate of forty-eight percent. Chi square (X2) was used to examine the relationship between the variables type of education, location, type of employer and use of the Code of Ethics. The study shows that there is general support for the presence of a code and that planners do facce ethical issues in their work. The actual use of the code is less than the expressions of support for the code.
