Abstract

This thesis explores architecture as a proponent of building community within the context of public housing that engages and contributes to a larger community. It looks at the creation of linkages between a public housing community and its surroundings. This thesis proposes that social and economic diversity are achieved by offering choices in housing typologies and flexible spaces. Moreover, this approach counters the deleterious effects of many long neglected, racially and economically segregated and physically isolated public housing communities. Consequently, the social and cultural dimension of this project were given equal status with its architectural agenda.
