Abstract

Information from the 1971 Tennessee Extension Foods And Nutrition Survey was related to data from the Tennessee Extension Management Information System (TEMIS) (i.e., Agent days planned and expended and clientele contacts made) for Fiscal Years 1972 and 1974 to determine whether the survey had influenced Agent time planned and expended with selected homemaker audiences and teaching methods. The relation between foods and nutrition survey practices and TEMIS Primary Subjects was found to be satisfactory for this study. Recommended practices under the Primary Subjects "Health" and "Food Preservation" were found to be used the least by Tennessee homemakers suggesting need for nutrition educational program emphasis. Percents of total Agent days planned and expended on the weak foods and nutrition practices showed no appreciable increases between Fiscal Years 1972 and 1974. Percents of Agent days planned increased for all audiences except Home Demonstration Club Members; and percents of Agent days expended increased for all audiences except Home Demonstration Club Members and Young Non-Club Homemakers. There was an increase in all Subjects in total numbers of Agent days planned and expended between Fiscal Years 1972 and 1974; a relative increase in total time was noted. Also, there was an increase in total contacts made by Agents between Fiscal Years 1972 and 1974; with the only decrease in contacts made by Agents being in the Subject of Health. Group Contacts, Mass Media, and Planning (teaching methods) had the greatest increases in numbers of contacts made by Agents between the years studied. It was implied that factors other than the 1971 Foods And Nutrition Survey had influenced Agent time planned and expended and contacts made by Agents for audiences and by teaching methods. Recommendations were made for further study.
