Abstract

This project explores the emergence of zydeco music in Louisiana as a representation of Creole identity and ethnicity. The exploration of the term Creole and the impact of changes in this definition upon Creole culture are indicated through the study. This thesis combines ethnographic fieldwork with archival and secondary sources as well as musical transcriptions.
