Abstract

This study was designed to cover the marketing activities involved in the movement of farm commodities from the farm to the first buyer, in Bradley County, Tennessee.

Schedules were obtained from 90 farmers in this county. Information obtained relates to the kind and amount of commodity sold, the purchasing agency, the first destination of the commodity after leaving the farm, and related data (Appendix A).

The survey was made in September 1948 for the calendar year 1949

The purposes of the study are as follows:

1. To determine the principal methods, practices and channels used by Bradley County farmers in moving their commodities from the farm to the first buyer.

2. To point out problems and inefficiencies in the marketing activities used and to make suggestions as to how improvements might be made.
