Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relation between selected attitudinal variables and level of living of rural households in the Central Appalachia Area (hereafter referred to as Appalachia). In addition, the relation of these attitudes to level of living in other parts of the rural South will be determined in the interest of detecting any regional influence on such relationships. More specifically, the objectives are to: 1. Summarize the general data dealing with level of living in the rural areas of Appalachia. 2. Analyze the relation between various attitudinal factors and level of living in this area. 3. Compare the relationships found in No. 2 in rural Appalachia with similar relationships in other low income rural areas of the South.
