Abstract

A low-cost controller is required for automation of an existing infrared spectrometer used for gas analysis. The controller must also perform limited data reduction on the spectrometer output and present the results in printed form.

The existing hardware to be used, and the design criteria for the controller are presented to provide the information upon which the design was based. Operational and hardware considerations are discussed and justified in the design of the controller. An example of the implemented design is given which fulfills the original goal of performing limited automation of the spectrometer.
