Abstract
In the Summer of 1981 the International Business Machines Corporation's Real Estate and Construction Division will complete the construction of a million square foot, 43 story office building in New York City, New York. The building's Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system represents the current state of the art in HVAC systems designs. This thesis presents an a priori study of the building's operation to determine its optimum operating potential.
The system has well over 25 valid configurations. This work addresses the optimum operation of each configuration, and other factors which must be considered in selecting the optimal configuration. All the results presented in this thesis are based upon a detailed steady state simulation of the building's HVAC system. A previous thesis by Marcev (2) details the development of the system simulation.
