Abstract

The major premise of this work is that the principal changes which occurred in Spanish loan-words of Arabic origin can be categorized and studied according to linguistic criteria and that these alterations belong to recognizable patterns explained through phonology and morphology. Due to the nature of this research, which deals with crosslinguistic borrowing, a great deal of information is gained concerning the similarities and differences in the structure of both Arabic and Spanish. Most linguistic modifications followed predictable phonological developments, but the numerous exceptions reveal other linguistic influences.
