Abstract

A microprocessor-based system design course at the chip level is needed to complement a presently available microcomputer interface course based on the TM 990/U89 microcomputer board. Projects in the microprocessor-based system are needed for the course. Using the TI 990/12 model 20 minicomputer facility and the AMPL (Advanced Micro-processor Prototype Laboratory) development system, six design projects are implemented and recommended for the course. Two of these projects are designed to familiarize the students with the AMPL development system. Each of the other four are microprocessor-based system projects that can be completed in a quarter's time. One of the microprocessor-based system projects is used as an example in the thesis to illustrate the design procedures using the AMPL development system. These six projects should provide an interesting laboratory for the microprocessor-based system design course.
