Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive, descriptive summary of the criticism of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi over a ten year period, 1971-1980. This annotated bibliography is to serve as a continuation of William Mahaney's John Webster; A Classified Bibliography. which covers the years 1945-1970.
The bibliography contains 94 annotations derived from books, journal articles and unpublished dissertations. These annotations are descriptive rather than evaluative, emphasizing the major arguments without judging the validity or the strength of a critic's position.
The items are chronologically arranged within five major categories: Standard Editions, Textual Studies, Sources, Stage History, and Critical Studies. An author index follows' the annotations and lists the item number of the particular work.
The primary source of information for the bibliography was the Modern Language Association inter national Bibliography. However, bibliographies in the individual books, as well as those listed in the journal articles were also consulted. Those entried which were inaccessible have been marked "not seen."
