Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to make a thermodynamic study of the absorption refrigeration process, developing such equations as may be of use in studying the process and making calculations relating thereto. In general, the technique which has been employed in dealing with this subject is new, and not in accordance with the current methods of treatment. The reason of the writer for devising this technique in dealing with the subject is that it enables one to better understand the actions of the process, and to better see the influence that the many variable conditions of the process have upon the performance of the machine. In short, the purpose .of this thesis is to propose a new method of studying and making calculations concerning the absorption refrigeration process, which method, it is hoped, will be more useful than the current methods used in this connection, especially when the study or calculations made relate to the conditions of maximum efficiency and minimum cost.

It is to be mentioned here that the importance of the-- absorption refrigeration system is growing. This type of machine is now aboul to be introduced into the field of domestic refrigeration. With the coming of this new use of the absorption machine new problems of design at once present themselves, for the conditions of operation must of necessity vary greatly from those of machines now in use. It is especially in connection with the problems of design for this new field that this work is intended to be of value.
