Abstract

It is the purpose of this work to determine the rate of melting or sublimation of ice at different temperatures below freezing under different conditions of air velocity and humidity. Incidentally, it is hoped that some material relative to the individual effect of air velocities can be derived from the results of the research. No attempt was made to reproduce the conditions under which Mr. Scates performed his tests, because the rate of melting of ice at low temperatures is so much lower than the rate within the range of his tests. This research was carried on under independent conditions, although valuable suggestions were given by Mr. Scates personally.
