Abstract
Testing and calibrating U.S. Navy radiation survey meters by current manual techniques is expensive and time consuming. However, this process can be made considerably less so by doing two things: using automatic test equipment under computer control, and phasing in new survey meters designed for automatic testing and calibration.
Implementation of a prototype automatic testing system, ARCADES, is discussed here. Also considered are the design requirements new survey meters must meet in order to take full advantage of ARCADES.
Although the prototype system was demonstrated with an existing survey meter not designed with ARCADES in mind, troubleshooting was significantly easier with this new system.
