Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, men's sports information department in meeting the needs of the statewide media. Twenty-two sportswriters and 15 television sports directors from the state of Tennessee Participated in the study. Each subject completed a questionnaire, specifically designed to assess the operation of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, men's sports information department. Results were tabulated according to media type (newspaper or television). The data obtained from the questionnaires was evaluated by utilizing a frequency reading for every question. Three related questions were also selected for cross tabulation. The findings revealed that both newspaper and television respondents expressed considerable satisfaction with the services provided by The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, men's sports information department. It was concluded that while the professional needs of newspaper and television journalists are extremely different. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, men's sports information department is aware of the separate needs and is effective in meeting those needs.
