Abstract
One of the biggest improvements seen in the chemical industry over the past fifteen years is in the ability to measure process variables and to store large amounts of data cheaply and efficiently. However, even with an enormous amount of information at their fingertips, process engineers many times do not have good feedback on how efficiently a process is operating. The pr()l)lem is that the many multivariable relationships in a process are not easily discernible from the raw data. A new focus in chemical engineering process control called process control system cultivation provides a scheme for defining and monitoring on a daily basis these multivariable relationships. Through these relationships a systematic framework for identifying system problems can be defined. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how the concepts of process control cultivation can be applied to a chemical process.
