Abstract

The complexity of computer graphics systems today has reached a point where it is becoming increasingly difficult to effectively design, manufacture, and market a graphics system in a highly competitive and rapidly changing computer graphics marketplace. Therefore, it is imperative that the graphics system designer find ways to minimize costly development time and reduce the risk of early obsolescence by the proper design and selection of graphics system components.

The design of an interactive computer graphics system involves a large number of considerations. The functional requirements and design considerations for various system components are drawn from current research and literature in the field of computer graphics and related areas. Various approaches to the design of different graphics system components, namely hardware architecture, software architecture, and human factors and ergonomics, are formulated, with emphasis on recent trends in the graphics industry towards three-dimensional graphics applications.
