Abstract

It is important that administrators and observers of the typical rehearsal setting be aware of the conceptual instruction that should be included in the rehearsal. This paper addresses the ensemble rehearsal as a performance setting with general musical knowledge integrated to provide a balanced program of performance and instruction. The materials presented will provide the observer with examples of possible classroom experiences that should be included in the rehearsal.

Information was gathered that discussed the aspects of performance and instruction and synthesized them to provide an understanding of the problem encountered when trying to balance the music program. Examples of concepts to consider in the rehearsal setting, along with specific instances of conceptual teaching situations, are included to assist the reader's understanding.
