Abstract
The object of this study was to evaluate the effect of a test cell bypass in operation upon the flow field of a jet engine test facility's exhaust header. A simplified analysis of the mixing of the flow was performed and a flow field simulation computer program, the Propulsion Ames Research Center (PARC) Code, is presented for engineers to use to obtain a more complete analysis of the flow field. A suggested method for setting up the PARC computer program input files is provided which the AEDC engineer could use with the Cray computer to analyze the mixing characteristics of the exhaust header during bypass operations. The information could then be used to optimize exhauster selection to prevent excessive cold air ingestion by the compressors or to determine a solution to warm up the cold flow.
