Abstract
The Tennessee Technology Corridor is a regional economic development concept intended to promote long-range economic growth by capitalizing on the technical and scientific research base in the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area. The Technology Corridor Overlay Zone is located within the central portion of the Corridor, in West Knox County. For the purpose of regulating development within the Overlay Zone, in accord with the economic development objectives of a comprehensive plan, the Technology Corridor Development Authority is charged by State law to plan and manage the Corridor's land base. The Technology Corridor Overlay Zone was created in 1983, in order to provide the mechanism necessary for the Development Authority to regulate development through zoning and design and use review. The purpose of this investigation is to provide a part of the information necessary to assess the progress of the Technology Corridor Concept in the West Knox County, Technology Corridor Overlay Zone based on the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Development Plan. The case study method was employed in order to gain a general overview of the Tennessee Corridor initiative from its beginnings to its current status.
