Abstract

Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" has been interpreted in various Mays. For the most part, the tale has been interpreted as a supernatural horror story told by a deranged narrator. However, if we view "The Fall of the House of Usher" as a tale of psychological realism rather than a tale of supernatural horror, we see that it represents an actual nightmare experienced by an unknown dreamer. Furthermore, when we consult C.G. Jung's writings concerning dreams, we can analyze the manner in which the dreamer's unconscious psyche expresses itself through the nightmare.
