Abstract
This research attempted to forecast transit ridership through sketch planning analysis for a potential light rail transit system in Knoxville, Tennessee. The computer planning program Quick Response System II was used to estimate potential patronage on a transit system developed for study in this thesis. An economic analysis of the light rail transit system was used to predict the feasibility of LRT being implemented in the West Knoxville area. It was concluded that the ridership levels forecasted could not economically support the light rail transit system developed for Knoxville, Tennessee in this thesis.
