Abstract
Iodine has been used in the conversion of vinylboronic acids [(e)-1- alkenylboronic acids] to 1-iodo-1-alkenes employing gamma alumina as the base catalyst. Iodine and bromine have both been used by Brown in the conversion of vinylboronic acids to haloalkenes in solution. The goal of this research is to use bromine to convert vinylboronic acids to bromoalkenes using gamma alumina and to compare these results with those obtained from the iodination on alumina.
