Abstract
This paper describes the manner in which sound and electromagnetic waves are affected by the Doppler principle. The discovery of the Doppler effect is discussed, the mathematical basis for the Doppler phenomenon as it applies to the one-dimensional wave equation is examined, and several Doppler applications are mentioned. Applications include Doppler echocardiography, Doppler radar, and underwater echo-ranging.
