Abstract
In this thesis, the revenues and expenditures for Tennessee maintained highways are forecasted to the year 2020. The revenues and expenditures were forecasted using existing data collected from Highway Statistics. A linear regression was then performed on the data and produce a straight line trend. Also, two percent and four percent growth rates were projected. The data was collected from Highway Statistics for the years between 1970 and 1994 using the various editions of that publication. There is a strong chance that the expenditures will outpace the revenues during the time period between 1996 and 2020. The State of Tennessee might have to investigate ways to increase the revenues, either by raising taxes or by utilizing additional revenue streams.
