Abstract
In this study, an attempt was made to relate the television viewing amounts of children and the parenting style of their parents. Parents of 23 children at a southeastern university reported on the household behaviors of their children and their own parenting style. Findings indicated that parenting style and viewing behaviors were not related in this group. A second function of the study was to validate further a parenting instrument using non-parents. Demographic variables held little influence in the parent sample and student sample. A discussion of the implications of the current findings calls to question the validity of the instruments and notion of parenting behavior.
