Abstract
The problem investigated in this study was to estimate the effects of the Interstate Highway System on the competitive position of several agricultural commodities produced in Tennessee. The objectives were: (l) to describe the equilibrium shipments of beef, pork, broilers and eggs using 1962 demand, supply and transportation data; (2) to estimate the effects of the Interstate Highway System on these movement patterns; and (3) to estimate 1972 equilibrium shipments of these commodities, taking into account the improved highway system and changes in population and income.
