Abstract
Based on real events, this novel, Ornament and Reward, follows a conflict between the working-class residents of Hudson, New York and a gentrifying group from the City. The two factions clash when a corporation brings the promise of jobs with the possible construction of the second largest cement plant in North America. The plotlines trace the intimate connections between the main characters, while the framework addresses the large economic forces that have the potential to change a landscape for generations.
