Abstract
The relationship between divorce adjustment and family of origin issues is for the most part unexplored. This study examined the relationship between divorce adjustment and perceived health in the family of origin through the use of the Family of Origin Scale and the Fisher Divorce Adjustment Scale.
Sixty-six divorced persons completed the FDAS and the FOS. Additionally, thirty-six individuals from the families of the divorced persons completed the FOS.
Pearson product-moment correlations were computed on the data. The study did not find a significant correlation between divorce adjustment and perceived health in the family of origin however, for females, feelings of self worth were found to correlate with perceived health in the family of origin. Interfamilial ratings of perceived health in the family of origin suggested a shared perception between family members responding to the survey.
It was hypothesized that the study adds to the growing body of research that proposes a distinct model for female psychological development.
