Abstract
A packed bed of nonconducting granules is shown to be an effective filter for removing very small particles from suspension in slightly conducting liquids. A theoretical model, based on a force balance on a single particle near a packing granule is in good qualitative agreement with the experimental results. The filter is most likely to find application for removing very small particles (≤1 /μm) from dilute suspensions in hydrocarbon liquids.
