Abstract
A quantitative model of one-neutron transfer between deformed and heavy spherical nuclei is developed. The projectile is assumed to follow a classical trajectory while inelastic excitation of the deformed target is treated in the sudden limit by using the evolution operator of the interaction representation. Neutron transfer is assumed to occur at the minimum distance between the two ion centers and is described in terms of spectroscopic amplitudes obtained from a many-BCS quasiparticle plus rotor model. The model is applied to two reactions for which there are data; the calculations predict population of both ground band and excited two quasiparticle states in these reactions, in agreement with previous qualitative explanations of these data.
