The Department of History at the University of Tennessee is a community of distinguished scholars and excellent teachers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Over just the last three years, our faculty of some twenty-five scholars has published fourteen books. Yet that same faculty teaches more undergraduates per person than almost any other department at this university. Our bachelor’s degree program allows students to learn from historians of the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. Our excellent MA and PhD programs focus on selected areas of American history (especially the nineteenth-century and the history of religion in America) and European history (especially the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and Modern Germany).
