Radar cross section of the Low Flying Aerial Target in B-band
This study presents a methodical determination of a model to analytically estimate the radar cross section (Rcs) of the Low Flying Aerial Target (LOFAT) at a frequency of 430 megahertz (MHz). This report approached the problem utilizing approximate theoretical techniques and laboratory RCS measurements of the LOFAT to develop the representative model. Simple shapes, including cylinders, thin wires, a flat circular disk, and a flat rectangular plate were employed to construct the composite model.
The model developed in this study generally exhibited an agreement between measured and calculated RCS of +5 dB and within +2 dB in the regions from 0° to 20°, 80° to 130°, and 150° to 180°. The model developed will help to satisfy the goal of the Navy to accurately predict the RCS of the LoFAT at frequencies in the B- Band.
