Abstract

A comparison of finite difference methods for the approximation of the solution of initial-boundary value problems for first-order hyperbolic systems is made, in the context of the 2x2 hyperbolic system resulting from the one-dimensional wave equation. The accuracy and stability of three difference schemes are evaluated and compared under several different boundary differencing algorithms.
