Abstract

The High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) provides a variety of research facilities for irradiation experiments, neutron scattering research, and a source for transuranic isotopes used in medicine and industry. In support of the HFIR maintenance organization's desire to continuously evaluate and improve maintenance practices, a strategy was developed for augmenting current practices with a predictive maintenance program. The specific steps accomplished include the following: selection of appropriate monitoring techniques, identification of components to be monitored, collection and centralization of equipment documentation, setup and configuration of monitoring equipment, initiation of data collection and analysis, and development of a technical basis document designed to serve as the foundation for the development of a predictive maintenance program at HFIR.
