Abstract

The effects of vitamin A deficiency on the oestrus cycle confirmed the findings of Evans. On supplementing the basal diet with either form of butter fat, the normal cycle gradually was resumed. Hemoglobin determinations shoved a constantly high percentage in the case of continued deprivation of vitamin A. When the animals were supplied with either form of butter fat as a source of vitamin A the hemoglobin returned to its normal level. Judging from these results as well as from improvements in the general condition of the animals, and from the autopsy findings, it was concluded that the mineral oil treatment of milk for the removal of the onion flavor and odor, had no effect on the vitamin A content of the butter fat.
