Abstract
The natural factor method proposed by J. H. Argyris for the solution of ill-conditioned structural analysis problems is presented. This method uses the structural relationships that exist at the element level to develop a factorization for the total structural problem. This new method and the classical approach for the solution of structural analysis problems are compared conceptually and numerically. Specific features of the method are examined and several examples are given.
