Abstract
To better simulate actual flight conditions it is desirable to improve engine inlet pressure control in jet engine testing. This report documents a study in which a statistical regression method, using system data acquired on-line, was employed to model the system dynamics involved. From this model and a known engine disturbance (fan speed) a control strategy was developed. This advanced strategy was shown to offer improved system performance when it supplemented the existing control system.

The work reported here was carried out without the use of simulation laboratory facilities, did not result in any overhead plant operation time and did not require any deviation from normal testing schedules.
