Abstract
A biosystematic study was conducted on Sedum section Ternata. Morphological, biochemical and distributional data were collected from field, herbarium, laboratory and library investigations. From these studies four taxa are recognized: Sedum nevii, S. glaucophyllum, S. ternatum and S. pulchellum.

Flavonoid analyses revealed two major classes of compounds, flavones and flavonols, in the section Ternata. Interspecific differences were found among all the taxa. A distinct chemical race was detected in S. Pulchellum.

SEM analysis of leaf surfaces did not reveal any distinguishing taxonomic characters. Spermoderm characters observed with the SEM proved to be of taxonomic value. Interspecific differences were observed between all the taxa.

The hypothesis concerning the amphidiploid origin of S. glaucophyllum from S. nevii and S. ternatum was supported by the flavonoid data. A second hypothesis, concerning the aneuploid origin of S. pulchellum from S. nevii, was not.
