Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine cross-culturally two prominent generalizations about primitive education. To complete this study forty-seven American Indian tribes were identified and examined. Five specific questions were asked about native American Indian teachers and instruction. These questions were asked of information found in the Human Relations Area Files, which is a collection of primary source materials on selected cultures.

The results of the information after examination were that the generalizations were unfounded. The researcher restated these generalizations in a manner that would be cross-culturally accurate, suggested areas of future research, and stated implications for education which were derived from this research.
