Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to propose another method of Speed Control with the twin stator induction motor arrangement. The method centered around the slip power extracted from the rotor circuits by induction to one set of stator windings, from which it was dissipated in an external resistor connected to that set of windings. Speed Control was accomplished by changing the value of this resistor.


The machine configuration to implement this consisted essentially of two identical polyphase wound rotor induction motors having their shafts coupled and their rotor circuits interconnected, with one set of stator windings fed from a balanced polyphase power supply voltages and the other set of the stator windings connected directly to an external variable polyphase resistor.
