Abstract

In this thesis we consider the approximation of the solution of the wave equation in two dimensional rectangles by three finite difference methods, two of which are of second order of accuracy and one of fourth order of accuracy. We prove, using energy methods, stability and convergence of the difference schemes in the discrete ℓ2-norm under suitable restrictions on their Curant number.
