A multiobjective optimization model for the land allocation problem
This thesis presents the development and application of a multiobjective optimization model for the land use allocation process. An integer programming model was developed for locating land allocations based on the cost of the proposed development, proximity to existing land uses, and the shape of the final allocation. The solution technique uses an implicit enumeration scheme to, iteratively identify efficient solutions. The model and solution technique were implemented in an interactive computer system designed for use by the land use planning professional. The system uses a grid cell structure to represent geographic locations for the final allocation. To test the system, allocations were made for a thirteen acre residential development across a 2,250 acre study area.
